A range of Co-op facilities are available in the community house and on the communal
land at the back of the south side houses. They include:
This consists of a workshop, office, meeting room, kitchen and launderette. Each household has a set of keys and every member is free to use the community house facilities, although Co-op business takes priority.
This contains benches, tools and supplies for woodworking, metalworking, building, painting, plumbing and electrical work.
This contains the Rainbow files, computer and printer, photocopier, various reference books and the baby alarm console (Each house is wired up to a baby alarm allowing members to be in another house but still able to monitor their own house through this system!)
There is a communal washing machine and tumble dryer in the kitchen area. Both are coin-operated at low prices to cover the running costs.
The downstairs area in the community house is used for monthly meetings and communal meals. It also contains a cooker, water boiler, freezer, first aid box, television, and benches tables and chairs. Various cleaning tools (e.g. vacuum cleaner, carpet shampooer, brushes and brooms.) are kept in the porch cupboard.
There is a large grassed area immediately behind the south-side terraces. This area used to be called the car park land. This is because MKDC originally designated the area as a car park, but we managed to get them to agree to our using it as a communal area instead. It is now referred to as "The Backlands". It has a garden shed, fruit trees, polytunnel, chickens & ducks, a pond, fire area, and in 1999 as part of the backlands re-fit, there is a custom built kids play area.
