The Co-operative structure can support many different life-styles - e.g. people may choose to share houses, or live on their own in the knowledge that there are always
friends around with whom to share various activities.
There are many other benefits as well:
The maintenance and management work that we do ourselves
leaves a surplus from the allowances to spend for the benefit
of everyone in the street for community facilities.
Allowances are available for gardens and internal painting.
Fresh free range eggs
Problems that members have (including maintenance) are dealt with personally
by people in the Co-op.
The Co-op can provide a united front to deal with other organisations.
A directory is kept of various skills held by people in the Co-op which can be referred to in times of trouble, or if someone wishes to learn one of the particular skills in it.
Everybody knows everyone living in the street; this means it can be a helpful and supportive place to live. Some people choose to eat together, share cars etc.
The street in between the two terraces is pedestrianised and so parents can let their children play in the street in the knowledge that everyone knows them and the children and parents can also benefit from being able to get away from their own houses and to visit other people in the street, by using the street baby alarm system.
